Revelation Decoded
What John Really Saw on Patmos, and What the Scribes Changed
The Book of Revelation contains surviving fragments of a great revelation. Large portions were lost, other portions were removed, subsequent to John's writing. What remains is โpreserved in only fragmentary and adulterated form.โ (UB 139:4.14). But the Urantia Book tells us what the original vision actually depicted.
What John Actually Saw
The Urantia Book identifies specific images from Revelation as garbled descriptions of real universe realities that John genuinely perceived in vision. Here is what he was looking at.
The Ezekiel Source
How an older prophet's vision was woven into John's
Scholars have long noted that Revelation follows Ezekiel's structure with remarkable precision. Both prophets describe the same cosmic realities: throne visions, living creatures, rivers of life, a new city. Because both were seeing glimpses of the same universe architecture. But later editors merged Ezekiel's imagery into John's text, sometimes replacing what John originally described.
| Element | Ezekiel | Revelation | UB Reading |
|---|---|---|---|
| Throne Vision | Sapphire throne, fire, crystal expanse (1:22-26) | Jasper/sardine throne, rainbow, sea of glass (4:2-6) | Both saw Salvington HQ โ the administrative center of Nebadon |
| Four Living Creatures | 4 faces, 4 wings, wheels with eyes (1:5-21) | 4 faces, 6 wings, covered with eyes (4:6-8) | Four control creatures โ "of unparalleled beauty" โ description "sadly marred" (34:4.12) |
| Crystal/Glass Expanse | "Crystal" above creatures' heads (1:22) | "Sea of glass like unto crystal" (4:6) | The broadcast receiving area on Jerusem โ real crystalline structure (46:3.1) |
| Scroll/Book | Scroll written front & back, eaten (2:9-3:3) | Scroll sealed with 7 seals (5:1) | Living records โ Custodians of Knowledge who ARE the books (27:5.1) |
| River of Life | River flowing from temple, trees on both sides (47:1-12) | River from throne, tree of life with healing leaves (22:1-2) | The Tree of Life was real โ a shrub from Edentia that sustained the corporeal staff (66:4.13) |
| Fall of Great City | Destruction of Tyre โ same language (26-28) | Fall of Babylon the Great (18) | Both encode memories of real civilizational collapses โ Dalamatia, the Second Garden |
| Gog and Magog | Enemy invasion from the north (38-39) | Final battle after millennium (20:7-8) | Separated by 1,000+ years in Revelation; both may encode rebellion memories |
| New Temple/City | New temple measured in detail (40-48) | New Jerusalem measured โ 1,500 miles cubed (21:10-27) | Morontia temple โ "comes down from heaven" but built by Morontia Power Supervisors (55:1.3) |
| God's Glory Fills It | Glory of LORD fills the temple (43:2-5) | Glory of God illuminates the city (21:23) | The actual spiritual luminosity of universe headquarters worlds |
| Healing Leaves | "Leaves for healing" on river trees (47:12) | "Leaves for the healing of the nations" (22:2) | The Tree of Life literally had healing/sustaining properties (66:4.13) |
What Was Lost
The original vision vs. what survived
The Original Revelation
โWhen in temporary exile on Patmos, John wrote the Book of Revelation, which you now have in greatly abridged and distorted form. This Book of Revelation contains the surviving fragments of a great revelation, large portions of which were lost, other portions of which were removed, subsequent to John's writing. It is preserved in only fragmentary and adulterated form.โ

The Confusion of Two Presentations
โThis record represents the confusion of two presentations, one pertaining to the universe headquarters and the other to the system capital.โ John was seeing multiple levels of universe administration simultaneously, Salvington (local universe HQ) and Jerusem (system HQ), and later editors couldn't distinguish between them, merging the imagery into a single confused narrative.

The Ezekiel Overlay
Editorial AnalysisLater scribes, unable to understand John's original cosmic imagery, replaced and supplemented it with familiar prophetic material from Ezekiel : the four creatures, the throne vision, the river of life. Both prophets were seeing the same realities, but the editorial process merged them into a single text, obscuring what was uniquely John's. What survives is a palimpsest: John's genuine vision, overwritten with Ezekiel's framework, filtered through centuries of copying and theological revision.

The Rebel Hierarchy: Decoded
Revelation names Lucifer, Satan, the Dragon, Abaddon, and Beelzebub as if they're aspects of one being. The Urantia Book reveals they are six distinct personalities in a rebel command chain, each with a different role, status, and current fate.
