WHAT THEY CHANGED

The Bible Before and After the Scribes

Hebrew priests during the Babylonian captivity (586โ€“539 BC) performed a massive editorial revision of sacred texts. The Urantia Book reveals what was changed, why, and what the original events actually were.

UB CONFIRMED

The Bible Says

A mystical garden somewhere in Mesopotamia with a talking serpent, a forbidden fruit tree, and God walking in the cool of the day. (Genesis 2-3)

The UB Reveals

A real Mediterranean peninsula โ€” "a long narrow peninsula projecting westward from the eastern shores of the Mediterranean Sea." Prepared by Van and Amadon over 83 years for the arrival of Adam and Eve. It sank ~34,000 years ago due to volcanic activity. The "garden" was a planned agricultural and cultural center, not a magical paradise.

What Changed

Hebrew scribes in Babylon compressed 150,000 years of planetary history into a single mythic narrative. The peninsula became a vague "garden." The real default (Eve's premature mating with Cano the Nodite) became "eating forbidden fruit." The biological mission became a morality tale.

UB CONFIRMED

The Bible Says

Eve eats an apple from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, tempted by a serpent. God curses all humanity with "original sin." (Genesis 3)

The UB Reveals

"Eating fruit" is a euphemism for Eve's sexual union with Cano, a Nodite leader. Serapatatia (whose name corrupted into "serpent") persuaded Eve that mixing violet and Nodite bloodlines would accelerate the divine plan. It was a well-intentioned mistake, not a cosmic crime. And NO ONE inherits guilt from it โ€” "no mortal subsequently born on Urantia has suffered in his personal spiritual experience because of these blunders." (67:7.7)

What Changed

A complex biological default involving real people was compressed into a morality tale about obedience. The name "Serapatatia" degraded to "serpent." A sexual union became "eating fruit." A biological mission failure became "original sin" โ€” a doctrine the UB calls "partially Mithraic in origin" and foreign to Jesus' actual teachings.

UB 75:3.1-6, 76:4.8, 121:6.5
UB CONFIRMED

The Bible Says

A universal flood destroys all life on Earth. One righteous man builds an ark and saves two of every animal. (Genesis 6-9)

The UB Reveals

There was NEVER a universal flood. The UB identifies THREE separate flood traditions compressed into one: (1) A real Noah of Aram who warned of local flooding, (2) Ararat regional floods from the Euphrates valley, and (3) A literary Noah constructed by Hebrew priests in Babylon who stitched Mesopotamian flood stories (Ziusudra, Atrahasis, Utnapishtim) into a universal narrative. "The Biblical story of Noah, the ark, and the flood is an invention of the Hebrew priesthood during the Babylonian captivity."

What Changed

Multiple real regional floods and multiple real people were compressed into one cosmic event with one man and one boat. The Mesopotamian literary chain (Ziusudra โ†’ Atrahasis โ†’ Utnapishtim โ†’ Noah) is documented by scholars. Hebrew priests adopted Babylonian flood mythology and reframed it as Yahweh's judgment.

UB CONFIRMED

The Bible Says

Melchizedek appears in Genesis 14:18-20 for exactly three verses โ€” brings bread and wine, blesses Abraham, then vanishes. "Without father, without mother, without genealogy." (Hebrews 7:3)

The UB Reveals

Machiventa Melchizedek was an emergency incarnation โ€” a Melchizedek Son who materialized in human form near Salem (~1973 BC) and taught for 94 years. He trained missionaries who spread monotheism to every continent. "The Hebrew scribes systematically destroyed every record they could find of Machiventa Melchizedek" to elevate Abraham and the Levitical priesthood.

What Changed

A 94-year mission was reduced to 3 verses. An entire school of missionaries was erased. The Salem covenant (salvation through faith, not sacrifice) was replaced with the Abrahamic covenant (circumcision and ethnic identity). The Dead Sea Scrolls (11Q13) preserve traces of the original Melchizedek tradition that the scribes tried to erase.

UB 93:2.1, 93:9.9
UB CONFIRMED

The Bible Says

"The sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives. There were giants in the earth in those days." (Genesis 6:1-4)

The UB Reveals

The UB quotes this directly and decodes it: "The Nephilim (Nodites) were on earth in those days, and when these sons of the gods went in to the daughters of men and they bore to them, their children were the mighty men of old, the men of renown." The corporeal staff WERE regarded as gods. Their offspring WERE superhuman. This is the most direct Bible decode in the entire Urantia Book.

What Changed

Nothing was "changed" here โ€” Genesis 6 actually preserves a surprisingly accurate memory. The "sons of God" were literally the corporeal staff. The Nephilim were literally the Nodites. The "mighty men of old" were literally their superhuman descendants. The scribes kept this passage because they didn't fully understand it.

UB 77:2.3, 67:4.3
INFORMED SPECULATION

The Bible Says

God places a "mark" on Cain to protect him from being killed after he murders Abel. Traditionally interpreted as a curse or brand. (Genesis 4:15)

The UB Reveals

The "mark" was Cain's Thought Adjuster โ€” received through sincere repentance. Cain genuinely repented of killing Abel and received the divine indwelling as a result. The "mark" was not punishment but divine mercy โ€” the gift of God's indwelling presence, which made Cain sacred and untouchable.

What Changed

A story of divine mercy was reframed as a story of divine punishment. The Hebrew word "oth" means "sign, token, miracle, wonder" โ€” no negative connotation. The Targum tradition identifies the mark as "the great and honorable name of the LORD." The original meaning was lost as scribes emphasized Cain's guilt over God's forgiveness.

The Bible Says

Moses wrote the first five books of the Bible (the Torah/Pentateuch) before his death. (Traditional attribution)

The UB Reveals

The Hebrews had no written language in Moses' time. They adopted the alphabet from the Philistines (refugees from Crete). Deuteronomy was composed centuries after Moses and "found" during Josiah's reforms in 621 BC. The Documentary Hypothesis โ€” that the Torah has multiple authors spanning centuries โ€” is confirmed by the UB.

What Changed

A composite document written by multiple authors across centuries was attributed to one man for authority. The UB supports the Documentary Hypothesis (J, E, D, P sources) that mainstream scholarship established independently.

UB 96:5.2, 97:7-8
UB CONFIRMED

The Bible Says

Jesus died as a blood sacrifice to pay for humanity's sins. "Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness." (Hebrews 9:22)

The UB Reveals

"Jesus did not die this death on the cross to atone for the racial guilt of mortal man nor to provide some sort of effective approach to an otherwise offended and unforgiving God." The atonement doctrine was Paul's addition โ€” "partially Mithraic in origin, having little in common with Hebrew theology, Philo's philosophy, or Jesus' teachings." Jesus forgave sins directly, without requiring any transaction.

What Changed

Jesus' gospel of divine mercy (the Father freely forgives all who sincerely repent) was replaced with a transactional sacrifice theology borrowed from Mithraism and Phrygian mystery cults. The cross was a human act of murder, not a divine requirement. "The Father in heaven never conceived of such crass injustice."

UB 188:4.1-3, 121:6.5, 89:9.3
UB CONFIRMED

The Bible Says

An apocalyptic vision of the end times โ€” beasts, seals, trumpets, the Whore of Babylon, Armageddon, a new heaven and earth.

The UB Reveals

"John wrote the Book of Revelation, which you now have in greatly abridged and distorted form. This Book of Revelation contains the surviving fragments of a great revelation, large portions of which were lost, other portions of which were removed." What remains is a palimpsest: John's genuine cosmic vision overwritten with Ezekiel's framework and first-century political allegory.

What Changed

A genuine revelation was "greatly abridged and distorted." The original vision showed real universe infrastructure โ€” the 24 Counselors on Jerusem, the broadcast systems of Salvington, the sea of glass receiving area. Later editors couldn't understand the cosmic imagery and replaced it with familiar Old Testament apocalyptic from Ezekiel and Daniel.

UB CONFIRMED

The Bible Says

Yahweh โ€” a tribal war god who demands sacrifice, chooses one ethnic group, commands genocide, and is jealous and wrathful. (Much of the Old Testament)

The UB Reveals

The God of the Hebrew scriptures is a composite โ€” layers of theology piled on top of each other over millennia. Melchizedek taught "El Elyon" (God Most High). Moses taught Yahweh (borrowed from the Kenites). Hebrew priests merged these into one deity and attributed their own tribal prejudices to him. The REAL God โ€” the Universal Father โ€” is "the loving spiritual personality" who indwells every mortal mind.

What Changed

The biggest change of all: a universal, loving, personally present Father was reduced to a tribal deity who plays favorites. The Hebrew priests projected their own nationalism, militarism, and ethnic pride onto the divine. It took Jesus to restore the original Melchizedek teaching: God is your Father, and all humans are your siblings.
