The Real Birth of Jesus

August 21, 7 B.C. ยท Noon ยท Bethlehem

What The Urantia Book reveals about the most mythologized event in human history.

The story you know is beautiful. The story that actually happened is better.

What You Were Told vs What The UB Says

Date of Birth122:8.1

What You Were Told

December 25, ~1 A.D.

What The UB Says

August 21, 7 B.C. at noon

๐Ÿ“Š

Historical evidence: Shepherds only kept flocks in open fields April-October (Adam Clarke). Roman censuses ran August-October (William Ramsay). Bethlehem averages 7ยฐC lows with 111mm rain in December, unsuitable for outdoor census travel or open-field shepherding.

December 2598:5.4

What You Were Told

Christmas, birthday of Jesus

What The UB Says

The annual festival of Mithras, the Iranian savior-hero

๐Ÿ“Š

Historical evidence: Emperor Aurelian established the Sol Invictus (Unconquered Sun) festival on Dec 25 in 274 AD. The first recorded Christmas celebration on Dec 25 appears in the Chronography of 354 AD, 80 years later. No mainstream scholar claims Jesus was actually born on December 25.

Birth122:8.2

What You Were Told

Virgin birth, miraculous conception

What The UB Says

"Conceived and born just as all other babies before that day and since"

๐Ÿ“Š

Historical evidence: Isaiah 7:14 uses Hebrew "almah" (young woman), not "bethulah" (virgin). The Greek Septuagint translated this as "parthenos" (virgin), an interpretive choice, not a literal translation. Scholars Raymond Brown, Bart Ehrman, Geza Vermes, and E.P. Sanders all document this mistranslation.

Star of Bethlehem122:8.7

What You Were Told

A miraculous star guided wise men

What The UB Says

"These wise men saw no star to guide them to Bethlehem." Triple Jupiter-Saturn conjunction was real astronomy.

๐Ÿ“Š

Historical evidence: Johannes Kepler first calculated the 7 BC triple conjunction in 1606 (De Stella Nova). Modern planetarium software confirms conjunctions on May 29, Sep 29, and Dec 5 of 7 BC. A Babylonian cuneiform almanac from Sippar (Berlin Museum) proves astronomers tracked this event in real time. This conjunction occurs once every ~900 years in Pisces.

The Visitors119:7.6

What You Were Told

Three wise men / Magi

What The UB Says

Priests from Ur led by Ardnon, guided by seraphim through midway creatures

๐Ÿ“Š

Historical evidence: "Magoi" (Greek) = Zoroastrian priests; this is not disputed by scholars. The Zoroastrian Saoshyant prophecy (Yasht 19.88-96) specifically anticipated a savior figure. Mesopotamian priests had both the astronomical knowledge to interpret the conjunction and the theological framework to expect a "light of life."

Why Ur?95:1.6

What You Were Told

Random eastern travelers

What The UB Says

Melchizedek's Salem missionaries established a school at Kish. The tradition survived in Mesopotamia for 2,000 years.

๐Ÿ“Š

Historical evidence: Kish is archaeologically confirmed as a major religious center with twin ziggurats, one of the most important cities in ancient Sumer. Monotheistic traditions survived in Mesopotamia alongside polytheism for millennia, as documented in Assyriological research.

What You Were Told

A young Jewish maiden

What The UB Says

"More a composite of Syrian, Hittite, Phoenician, Greek, and Egyptian stocks," "hardly proper to regard Mary as a Jewess"

๐Ÿ“Š

Historical evidence: Ancient DNA studies (Cell 2020, Science 2019) confirm the Levant was genetically diverse: local Neolithic + Zagros/Caucasus + coastal maritime contacts + post-Bronze Age migrations. "Galilee of the Gentiles" (Matthew 4:15) was historically a multiethnic region. A 1st-century Galilean woman plausibly carried heritage from multiple ethnic sources.

Joseph122:4.3

What You Were Told

Descendant of King David

What The UB Says

Black-eyed brunet. Went to Bethlehem because of adoption into the Davidic line 6 generations back, not actual blood descent.

๐Ÿ“Š

Historical evidence: Matthew and Luke give two completely different genealogies for Joseph, a well-known contradiction that biblical scholars have debated for centuries. Both cannot be literally true. The UB resolves this by explaining the adoption.

Gabriel122:3.1

What You Were Told

Announced to Mary before conception

What The UB Says

Appeared the day AFTER conception. Notification, not cause.

๐Ÿ“Š

Historical evidence: The annunciation narratives in Matthew and Luke differ significantly in detail, timing, and audience, suggesting theological framing rather than historical reporting. Luke places Gabriel with Mary; Matthew communicates through dreams to Joseph.

Shepherds98:7.4

What You Were Told

Angels appeared to shepherds in the fields

What The UB Says

"The Roman version of the miraculous birth of the Iranian savior-hero, Mithras," borrowed mythology

๐Ÿ“Š

Historical evidence: The Mithraic birth narrative featured shepherds witnessing a miraculous birth from a rock, with celestial signs. Mithraism was the dominant religion in the Roman military and spread throughout the empire. Early Christians in Rome were directly exposed to these narratives. The shepherd-and-angels story appears only in Luke, not in any other Gospel.

The Parents

Joseph

Human Father of Jesus

A black-eyed brunet. Hebrew ancestry tracing through Abraham to the Sumerians, Nodites, and the ancient blue man.

Carpenter-turned-contractor. Mild-mannered, extremely conscientious, and faithful. A thinker and deep spiritual seeker.122:1.1

NOT of the line of King David. His Davidic connection came through adoption six generations back.122:4.3

Held to the Eastern (Babylonian) views of Judaism. Married Mary at age 21.122:5.9

Mary

Earth Mother of Jesus

A brown-eyed, near-blonde. Racially a composite of Syrian, Hittite, Phoenician, Greek, and Egyptian stocks.

Named ancestors include Eve and Ratta, linking her lineage directly to the Material Daughter and Adamson's wife.122:1.2

โ€œNo Jewish woman of that day had a more illustrious lineage of common progenitors or one extending back to more auspicious beginnings.โ€122:1.2

Cheerful, ever-sunny disposition. Expert weaver. Leaned toward the more liberal Hellenistic interpretation of the law.122:5.2

What Jesus Inherited

From Joseph: Unusual gentleness, marvelous sympathetic understanding of human nature, strict training in Hebrew ceremonials.122:5.3

From Mary: Gift as a great teacher, tremendous capacity for righteous indignation, a broader and more liberal concept of spiritual freedom.122:5.4

The Priests from Ur: The Melchizedek Connection

No shepherds came to the manger. No wise men followed a star. The only visitors were three priests from Ur, led by a Chaldean named Ardnon.119:7.6

The seraphim formerly attached to Adam and Eve in the first Garden of Eden communicated through midway creatures to announce Michael's arrival to these priests. This was the only supernatural event associated with the birth of Jesus.119:7.6

They searched Jerusalem for weeks before Zacharias directed them to Bethlehem. The babe was about three weeks old when they arrived.122:8.6

The Salem Thread: Why Ur?

1

Melchizedek (~1980 B.C.) trained Salem missionaries who penetrated Egypt, Mesopotamia, and Asia Minor.93:7.1

2

Salem missionaries established a school at Kish in Mesopotamia under the leader Nabodad.95:1.6

3

The school collapsed, but remnants persisted. "Small bands scattered here and there continued their belief in the one Creator."95:1.9

4

These remnants maintained the light of truth for nearly 2,000 years โ€” through the entire period of Hebrew development.96:7.7

5

Ardnonโ€™s priests were the inheritors of this surviving Melchizedek tradition. The seraphim knew exactly where to send the announcement.119:7.6

This connects to the Alexandria Collection, the Salem thread running through everything.

The Adjuster Connection

Jesus' Thought Adjuster had previously indwelt Machiventa Melchizedek, the same divine fragment that guided the emergency bestowal mission in Salem around 1900 B.C.

A direct spiritual link spanning nearly 2,000 years. The Adjuster had already gained experience โ€œfunctioning in connection with the incarnation of a supermortal being living in the likeness of mortal flesh.โ€

The same divine fragment that guided Melchizedek's emergency mission now indwelt the Creator Son's human form.

Historical Alignments

Details from the Urantia Book that align with independently documented history and science.

The Roman Census122:7.1

Augustus decreed an empire-wide census in March, 8 B.C. Palestine delayed one year due to Jewish prejudice against numbering and Herodโ€™s domestic turmoil. Both facts are independently documented by Josephus.

Triple Jupiter-Saturn Conjunction122:8.7

May 29, September 29, and December 5, 7 B.C. โ€” confirmed by modern astronomy and Babylonian clay tablets from Sippar. Kepler first calculated this in the 1600s.

Herodโ€™s Domestic Problems122:7.1

Herod executed his own sons and was consumed by palace intrigue in this exact period, causing the census delay. Josephus documents this extensively.

December 25 = Mithras Birthday98:5.4

The Mithraic festival on December 25 celebrating the birth of Sol Invictus is historically documented. The early church adopted this date in the 4th century.

Rock-Hewn Cave Birthplace122:7.7

The UB describes a "grain storage room" in caravan stables "hewn out of the side of the rock." The Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem is built over a cave โ€” the oldest Christian tradition (Justin Martyr, 2nd century) places the birth in a cave, not a wooden stable.

Galilee of the Gentiles121:2.12

The UB describes Galilee as "more gentile than Jewish." This matches the historical designation "Galil ha-Goyim" and archaeological evidence of heavy non-Jewish population.

Why This Matters

This is not about destroying Christmas. It is about restoring the real story.

The real story is more beautiful: a normal baby born to extraordinary parents, with a divine mission nobody yet understood. A Creator Son of the universe, arriving as a helpless infant at noon on a hot August day, while the entire universe watched.

The mythology obscures the humanity, and the humanity is what makes Jesus relatable. He was not born into miraculous circumstances that set him apart from every other human being. He was born into the same world we all enter. That is the whole point of a bestowal mission.

โ€œIn just the same manner as all babies before that day and since have come into the world, the promised child was born.โ€122:8.2
